Many people were raised in households in which they learned to suppress their emotions – especially the emotions of sadness and anger. No matter what happens in your life, they were told, you never cry and you never get angry. Period. No ifs, ands or buts about it. The dilemma is that suppressing anything doesn’t make it go away.
